Cold Feet

Recently while running the tub for a bath I had an epiphany of sorts. I took my time to fill the tub ensuring the water was at the perfect temperature. I added Epsom salt and essential oil to optimize the experience of my respite time. I lit a candle and made sure the house was quiet.

Relaxing in the tub was something that I was looking forward to. It had been a busy day. When the tub was full, I stepped in and realized even though the temperature of the water was delightful to my hands and arms, my feet told my brain.

“Retreat! Retreat! Warning!!! Warning!!!! There is hot molten lava in the tub!”

“What?! Come on feet!” I thought to myself reaching down to touch the water with my hand again to be sure of what I already knew.

“Yep. Still perfect. What the heck feet?” I thought a little annoyed at the delay of my relaxation.

It took me a long time to convince the flashing warning lights of my feet to calm down. I had been running around the house with no socks on and my feet were cold before I stuck them in the bath water. The environment my feet had been exposed to all day had negatively affected my relaxation event.

After quite a few minutes I finally acclimatized my sensitive feet to the temperature by giving in and adding some cold water. As I sank into the tub and I wondered to myself.

“How many times in life did I reject a pleasant experience because I was uncomfortable with it? How many opportunities have I missed out on because of my metaphorical cold feet?”

There are moments in my life when the fear of change made me so uncomfortable, I decided against it. But was this the right thing to do? In this instance I knew I wanted to relax in the bathtub, I had looked forward to it all day. Yet the reaction of my cold feet hitting the warm water distorted my experience and not in a pleasant way at all.

“How many times has a cool environment caused warning signs that were unfounded because that is all I had known?” I wondered.

It seems to me I can think of quite a few and that disheartens me a bit. However, I think this hot tub, cold feet experience was exactly as it was supposed to be. It was not meant to dishearten me. Rather it was meant to open my eyes and become aware to a deeper understanding of myself and my patterns of being.

Now I am a thinker, and, in the bathtub, you have lots of time to contemplate. So, I continued.

“How often has the company I keep effected my response to opportunities as well? If I am surrounded by others who often have negative thinking patterns, who offer unsupportive comments or those who are guided by their fears rather than their dreams…. How often does that affect me and the decisions I make?” I wondered to myself.

If I am used to aloof surroundings; warm welcomes, and kindnesses may feel uncomfortable right?! I think you know the answer to that.

The company you keep has a giant affect on your life even if we do not realize it at the time. For me this did not mean I had to run away and move to the forest to live alone and in recluse. It was a gentle reminder from the Universe to SEE patterns I was unconsciously allowing so I could change them.

It was an opportunity to see into the subconscious desire to stay the same temperature. I was allowing lower vibe to run the show. It may feel uncomfortable, scary, or even seem painful at first. But once you tune in to the reality of our experience, a warm change can be quite delightful.

It was an intuitive opportunity to see what I had been missing all along. It is up to me to say.

“Nope. This this is not true cold feet. This is not lava. It is not a true story you are telling me. This is how I see it.” I get to change the skewed narrative that is currently floating around me.

Just because voices of my past are bringing doubts and discouragements or those in my support system are sounding their alarms. It does not mean that it is the correct guidance. They may also be offering and projecting their experiences to you as a warning because they care. Or maybe not… anyway, take that into consideration as well.

Like the sensation of my cold feet submerging into a warm bath felt uncomfortable. So, does going against the ‘norm’ in decision making! It was a nice reminder to take my time, to move at my own pace and allow my cold feet to warm up to the idea of a nice hot bath. Often you must go through a painful or uncomfortable period to get to a beautiful experience.

Next time I find myself with ‘cold feet’ I will ask myself.

“What can I do to transform this experience if I really want it? Is my trepidation, fear or pain a true story or is it perceived because of the situation I was just in? Would moving forward and continuing actually help me to reduce the uncomfortable sensations in the long run???”

In the end, yes. Proceeding towards my desires was exactly what I needed to do. My bath did feel fabulous, and it offered more than relaxation. It cleared the cobwebs of unconscious stagnation by offering insights downloaded by some magical force.

It is a nice reminder of the things that can happen when we give ourselves time to be quite and allow ourselves an opportunity to listen for higher guidance. We do not have to be sitting cross legged in meditation when it happens. We only have to allow quiet time for ourselves and be open to receiving.

Blessings,

My first solo Boundary Waters Canoe Area adventure!

I got the news today that the friend who was planning to accompany me to the Boundary Waters was not going to be able to make it. It doesn’t matter the reason. I trust that she did not want to have to cancel plans, so I could not be upset. As we know, life can change our plans for us even when we don’t want it too.

I had a feeling this was going to happen for some reason, yet I brushed it off. So, when my friend called to say she could not go, I was not surprised or troubled by the news. I had decided that no matter what, I was still going to go the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. My soul told me I must, and I just knew I better listen.

I even had an interesting dream a few nights before. I dreamt there was a person who came to me and asked. “What do you most need to get rid of in your life?” Without hesitating, I said. “My fear.” Just like that the person in my dream opened a door behind me and off my fear went! Isn’t that the craziest thing?! I believe your dreams are your subconscious communicating with you, so this dream was right on.

The even cooler thing about this dream is that when I woke up, I was no longer scared to go the BWCA alone. Well just a little, but nothing like I usually would be! If there is something, I am supposed to worry about, well, you know darn well that I’m going to give that worry all I got! Do you do this too? Which is another reason why I was so relieved not to feel enough fear to stay home from the BWCA.

Honestly, I love it there so much that not going would have hurt me more than anything. I knew I needed to go. It is so quiet and peaceful in the BWCA that I tell everyone it’s where God lives and where I go to talk to Spirit. Clearly, we needed to chat because my fear seemed to be lifted as if by magic so I could go.

I love it so much! But it’s not for everyone, and I have found it challenging to find friends who would like to accompany me. P.s. I am now accepting applications for water-loving, outdoor enthusiast, who are brave, fun and who want to BWCA Adventure with me! Ha!

A few times over the years, I have had to cancel the ‘annual’ trip to the Boundary Waters because a friend canceled on short notice, too late to fill their spot with someone else who enjoys roughing it. I just don’t have an abundance of friends who love portaging and pit toilet vacations for some reason!

If I were offering a free trip to the Bahama’s, I am sure there would be no problem filling the vacancy. But a trip to the BWCA is not for the meek. This last-minute cancelation that has happened yet again has me sitting with my thoughts.

I believe that a situation that keeps repeating is a sign that there is a message from the Universe/God/Creator. It means life is trying to teach me something so listen up. There is a spiritual lesson in this, I know it! Bear with me as I talk myself through this learning experience.

So, Universe, what am I supposed to learn from this?

I could get mad, but I won’t, because that’s wasted time and energy. Do I stop trusting people and decide to learn that there is nobody I can depend on? No, I don’t think that would be wise either. I do believe most people are good and do the best they can in the time and space they are given. Do I stop going to the BWCA? That’s a firm no way.

I do not need someone to hold my hand; I only think I do. I believe this is part of my lesson. These dreams and goals are mine alone. I think the message is it’s up to me and only me to make them happen. I am thinking, what I need to learn from this pattern is to be brave enough to go it alone.

I must conjure the courage to adventure into the remote wilderness by myself, and to be okay with doing anything that I desire to manifest, alone. I mean when it comes down to it, we are all alone on our path to travel. What I need is to believe in myself more than anyone else does. To face my fears and to do it anyway.

Sure, it is indeed safer in numbers, especially when in the wild but maybe, I am playing too safe in my regular life which can also be pretty darn wild too?! It seems that I am supposed to learn to listen to my inner knowing instead of the opinion of others.

I see now that in some ways, I have been allowing others to ‘drive the bus’ in some areas of life. Do you know how many people told me I am crazy for going to the BWCA alone? All of them. Had I allowed their thoughts to affect mine, I would not have gone.

Just maybe this is happening to get me away from the sway of people’s suggestion and opinions and back into the flow of my intuition, back onto my path. If I chose not to live the life I desire, go to the places that call my soul, or heed my knowing, am I doing enough to keep myself fulfilled truly?

I believe that being brave enough to go it alone once in a while will allow me to hear my intuitive guidance and will enable me to be authentically me.Whatever the message of repeating patterns ends up meaning, I know I will persevere as I always do.

It is only an illusion when we think we walk alone! I also believe life is meant to be shared, but our needs are ours to fulfill. I trust and believe that I will be protected on any mission I embark on. Solo or not, I will continue to emerge as an improved and wiser version of myself. Trusting that I was only being nudged by Spirit to level up once again.

Into the forest, I go, to clear my mind and listen to the call of my soul.

Please join me on our Facebook page @BWCAdventureSisters, where I will share pictures and videos of my first solo experience in the Boundary Waters with you!

Thanks for sharing this adventure of life with me! I hope your adventure too!

Seven signs spirit is speaking to you

Do you ever have something magical happen and you look up to the heavens and say: “I know that was you.” There are times I genuinely know I am receiving messages from the Universe/God. I believe I have come to be proficient at seeing these signs and flowing with the synchronistic paths set before me by merely listening to guidance from Spirit.

Although I am sure at times my angels and guides may think I am being quite obtuse. Almost as if I am walking around with my fingers plugging my ears, my eyes squeezed closed and saying “Lalalalalalalalalaaaa” so that I can pretend I don’t hear what I don’t want to know.

I am beginning to notice I don’t like to heed warnings because I think: “But who would want to hurt me? Why would they do that?” This is where I get sidelined every time, and how seeing only the good in someone, does not always work out the best for me. Trusting my intuition and messages from Spirit, is a skill I am working to improve all the time. I have good days and days that I learn the hard way.

Spirit/Higher Power/God/Angels/Guides do not have words, so I believe we must listen and pay attention to their signs, as communication. Often, I will ask my soul and angels, before bed, to help me get clear on a situation or hand my worries up to the heavens before I sleep. I have a very active dream world that seems to be a proficient way my higher-self likes to communicate with me.

Here are some of the ways I tend to receive messages from above. I hope they help you communicate with Spirit too!

Dreams – Dream analysis is a hobby of mine and I find them very informative, even when they are disturbing. When I am lucky, they deliver a premonition. If I can get the message that is being sent, it is advantageous in my waking life. Yet, when I do not understand or dismiss these messages, well let’s just say there are several times my intuition has said: “I told you so!” Dreams often show how you truly feel even when you don’t want to see or admit it. I like to use this webpage when I feel stuck in finding meanings. I hope it is also useful to you. http://www.dreammoods.com/dreamdictionary

Earth Angels – messages can come from friends, loved ones or even strangers, because they are giving you answers you have been asking for. Just last week I was at an event that my daughter wanted to go to. The stranger I sat beside said the exact same words that came out of my daughters’ mouth when I told her I was going. Coincidence? No. That was an earth angle delivering an important message for me to heed. I was asked to listen and pay attention to what matters the most.

Animals – Do you ever come across an animal that is seemingly out of place? Adventure Sister Stacy was once seeing deer everywhere, but when she saw one at a hotel in the middle of a bustling and populated city. She knew this sign was trying to deliver a message to her at that time in her life. Stacy felt the deer was telling her to stop running away from love because she was scared. Turns out she was right and was married the next year! We both like to reference www.whats-your-sign.com when we see animals that get our attention.

Songs/Music – Lots of people have memories that correlate to music and specific songs. This is a super easy way for loved ones who have passed or the higher power to send messages to us when we need to hear them.  When I was on the Campaign trail, at every speaking event that made my heart race and break out into a cold sweat, I would get into the car afterward and hear the same song. Starting on the day I got endorsed until the last speech, I would turn on the radio and hear “Take it easy” by Travis Tritt. Once or twice I can write off as a fluke, but this happened at least a half a dozen time’s, if not more! It was the Universe telling me just to relax.

Numbers – Do you tend to see 11:11 or 222 or 333 a great deal? Some people call these Angel numbers and believe they have important messages when they get your attention enough. This past year I have been seeing the number 456. It happened so often I had to research and see what it meant. So, I asked Google. What is the spiritual meaning of 456? This is the link to the explanation that felt right. https://www.luvze.com/angel-number-456-meaning/

Intuitive visions – I like to meditate, although after lots of years I would not consider myself ‘good’ at it! I am a busy girl with an active mind, so slowing down and letting go, does not come easy for me. Yet when I try hard, I can get lucky sometimes and allow Spirit into my consciousness and am rewarded with visions. The most recent image was something that has not come to fruition yet, but I am practicing patience and trusting that it will.

Repeated Messages – Like the song “Take it easy” that came to me several times, and the deer that kept showing up for Stacy, to repeating numbers or dreams and gut feelings; If something like this is happening to you, pay attention! What is it trying to tell you? Ask yourself the question. Before you go to bed, ask your higher-self to decipher it and reply to you in your dreams. Research these recurring incidents, they are messages for you.

Remember the Universe does not have words, so it is up to us to decipher what meaning sounds right. Use your intuition to choose which message is the one you need to hear. Trust yourself and Spirit to see what beautiful things can happen when you do!

Love and blessings,

My husband ~ My ordinary everyday hero

Is there divine intervention that happens, to put the people you need in your path, at the time you need them? Is it fate or divine order? I think there has got to be a little of both. I feel like my husband and I were put together at the right time, in the right place and for the right reasons.

Jason and I met at work, I was 28 and he was just turning 30. We dated four years before we got engaged. We were both doing our best to take it slow to make sure we were both happy in this relationship. My daughter was 11 and a huge factor in our relationship, it was imperative and non-negotiable that they got along.

Thankfully, Jason has a great sense of humor and handled it with laughter when Danica tried to frost his bald head with a spatula full of chocolate frosting. One of the first times they had met! They have been jokesters with each other ever since. He was very inclusive of her and their relationship has blossomed. At the age of 16, my daughter asked to change her last name to Jason’s last name, because he was more of a father to her than her own.

My husband had to go through many tests before I knew he was ‘the one’. I was not exactly an easy girlfriend, I was highly independent and had all that I needed; a car, a job, a house and a wonderful little girl. He was going to have to bring something to the table that I did not already have. What I needed was a best friend and companion to be my partner through life. I needed someone who made me laugh and help me do the things I could not. Someone who would stay by my side through the good times and bad.

Previous relationships I had experienced, were not horrible, for the most part. They were just not enough. When Jason and I met we said; “It took me so long to find you, I am not letting you go now.” We both felt that the life we lived before, was not nearly as good as when we finally found each other. So, I want to tell you what he does that makes me feel lucky to have an ordinary everyday hero like my husband.

My husband is always there for me and our daughter, Danica. He checks in morning, noon and night; just to keep in touch. His work has us away from each other quite often. We always let one another know when we get to where we are going. So, the other won’t worry. He also is always ‘there’ for his family and mine. Even if he doesn’t want to, he shows up, because he knows it matters and he loves me. Jason is the kind of husband who grumbles about going to some events but doesn’t let me down.

The first time I thought of him as an everyday hero, was the morning he acted as the best husband in the world. He woke up extra early to drive me to the airport. That morning I wanted to fill up the bird feeder before we left, while still dark. When I did, I stepped in dog poop! Yet, I did not notice until five minutes after we had left and were well on our way!

I was about to lose my cool and have a meltdown. I was horrified at the possibility of being the person on the plane that smells like dog poop! My husband just kept his calm used the random tools he had in his truck and a bottled water; to help clean it off and take care of me in a parking lot at 4:30 am. So, I didn’t have to fret. I’m telling you, at this moment, his help was like an angel sent from heaven just for me.

He takes care of me in other little ways almost every day. This morning he made my coffee. Yesterday he made me an oak bookshelf and one for my mom too.  The day before that, he held me and made me laugh about the week we had endured together; while both inflicted with the stomach flu. Day in and day out my husband is steady and here for me. He works, he comes home, he loves me and our daughter and will do all he can to give us the best life possible.

When I look at my handsome husband’s regular looking life, I see what it looks like to be an ordinary everyday hero.

It’s the men that show up to support you, who keep their word, who don’t leave when times are tough, money is low or tragedy hits that are the real heroes. He is still here, holding me, loving me and taking my crap through it all. My husband is not perfect, and I don’t want him to be. I just need him here with me. Being himself; the loyal, hardworking, handyman that makes my heart pitter patter is all that matters.

Some hero’s rescue you from a burning building. My husband saves me from day’s that feel like this, even if I’m the one who started the fire. (or stepped into some poo!) He is very much my best friend, my confidant, and my hero. I have known him for going on fifteen years, and watching him live with integrity, has earned my devotion and respect. When it comes to what matters, his consistent actions have made me quite certain, I picked the right one.

Thank you, Universe/God for the divine intervention of putting us on the same path. We have been taking turns rescuing each other ever since. I know I am incredibly blessed to have someone who loves me and helps me grow. I am beyond grateful for my husband. My ordinary everyday hero.

I’d love to hear what makes your husband or partner, your hero!

With love,

Curveballs or Divine Guidance?

How do you react when you find yourself in a situation you never expected? Out of the blue you may find out you are expecting a bundle of joy, or you lose a job only to find an opportunity that suits you better anyways. Maybe you go through a rough break-up to later be blessed by Cupid’s arrow walking into a room full of strangers. Before you know it, a new exciting and healing romance blooms into your life filling your heart with hope. Sometimes you look up at the heavens and think “Whoa, how did that happen?” I believe it is divine guidance.

I have found those days in my life that change everything to come in my future, are scary, exciting, and uncertain. Yet, they have made my whole life better, like finding out I was expecting a baby. I was scared, excited and uncertain, and it changed the direction of my life for the better. I grew up quickly, I put my baby first, I put my drive to succeed for our future prosperity second on the list and started moving forward with purpose.

Several years ago, in my early twenties, I quit a job that paid me well, but I never felt appreciated. In an expression of setting boundaries and demanding respect for myself, I walked out and quit. I was scared because that was not the in the plan that day, but also certain I deserved to be treated better.

It took me a few months, but I found a job that paid me much more, I enjoyed working there and it is where I met my husband! It was uncomfortable to be in limbo of uncertainty and unknowing if I was going to be okay or not. For some reason, I just knew I could not take this disrespect anymore and the universe supported this decision by rewarding me with a better situation.

This brings me to where I am today. I have decided to put myself ‘out there’ in a very public way. As a semi-introverted person this takes a good amount of courage and gumption. Attributes that I learned while adventuring to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and through living the adventure that is my life. I learned I can do more then I think I can, I learned I am smarter then I thought, I learned I am brave and strong. I have learned a great deal about what I can do, by doing things I never thought I could or would.

How we act when life throws us a curve ball is what determines our future. We can be fearful, drag our feet or go kicking and screaming. Or we can choose to trust that God/Universe sent this revolution because you needed it, dig in and move forward. After being endorsed by the DFL, I found myself a little scared, excited and unsure of the path that lay before me. I choose to fully embrace the opportunity to hopefully represent my community for the greater good with my whole being.

When I decided “Yes, thank you Universe for this amazing opportunity,” is when synchronicities started to happen, I could not believe how effortlessly everything was falling into place. Extremely qualified and wonderful people appeared to help me and support every step of this journey.

The first day I made my stump speech I mentioned my grandmother was my hero. Moments later I met a woman who worked with my grandma for 10 years! Her presence was kind and very supportive which helped me move forward to the next convention. By the next week I had acquired a campaign team that helped reinforce and verify that this is the path for me.

I had been asking for a big map of my district for about a week, I had mentioned it again the morning we were heading to a local pizza and politics meeting for dinner. When we walked into the pizza place the first woman to greet me was holding a giant map of my district and asked me if I would like to have it along with a very generous campaign donation I was not expecting. My heart swelled.

I had no choice but to look up at the heaven’s and say “Thank you. I know you are helping me, thank you for listening!” I have felt as if this whole political adventure has indeed been divinely guided. The less energy I give to the fear of unknown, the more synchronistic happenings appearing as if by magic or miracles.

My life experiences taught me to referred to life’s curve balls as divine guidance from now on. I trust them.

When have you experience divine guidance in your life? I would love to hear your stories!

Wishing you an abundance of joyful blessings,
